There are three types of plate boundaries: convergent, divergent, and transform boundaries. Different plate boundaries At a tensional, constructive or divergent boundary the plates move apart. If one of the plates is made up of oceanic crust then it can be forced downwards into the mantle where parts of it will melt.
Example: Mid-Atlantic Ridge Convergent Boundaries: The crust is destroyed as one plate dived under another. The sites where the plates move away from each other are called spreading sites. They are: Divergent Boundaries: New crust is generated as the plates pull away from each other. Destructive Boundary (as crustal material can be melted here). There are three types of plate boundaries. Compressional Boundary (compression pushes together).
